Abstract

Introduction: Ovarian cancer is the ninth most frequent cancer worldwide, with an incidence of 6.6 per 100,000 inhabitants and a mortality rate of 4.4 per 100,000. Borderline Ovarian Tumors (BOT) are epithelial neoplasms characterized by atypical proliferation, absence of stromal invasion, and mild nuclear atypia. The increase in diagnoses is related to advances in histopathology, imaging techniques, and risk stratification programs. Objective: To determine the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of adnexal tumors in patients at the Central Hospital of the Social Security Institute in 2023. Methodology: A retrospective, observational, cross-sectional study was conducted with patients treated at the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service during 2023. Results: A total of 150 patients were evaluated. The predominant age group was 45 to 50 years (93%). The year 2021 recorded the highest number of consultations in the analyzed period, with September and October concentrating more cases of ovarian carcinoma. Patients from rural areas represented 47%, and 56% had a monthly income. The main reasons for consultation were metrorrhagia (27%), premenstrual syndrome (25%), postcoital bleeding (20%), and pelvic pain (7%). The mean age at sexual debut was 18.38 years; 83% reported an average of three sexual partners. Conclusion: The findings suggest that sociodemographic and clinical factors influence the profile of patients with adnexal tumors, reinforcing the importance of early diagnosis and specialized follow-up.
