This article aimed to discuss the clinical applicability of colchicine in cardiovascular events. Based on the analysis of 25 studies published between 2020 and 2025, we reviewed current evidence regarding its efficacy, safety, and clinical indications. Colchicine, traditionally used to treat rheumatologic diseases, has emerged as a promising anti-inflammatory agent in the secondary prevention of cardiovascular events, especially in patients with acute myocardial infarction and established atherosclerotic disease. Studies have shown a significant reduction in outcomes such as reinfarction, stroke, and cardiovascular mortality. Its use in special conditions, such as atrial fibrillation, heart failure, and post-cardiac surgery, has also shown positive results. Adverse effects, usually mild and gastrointestinal, are uncommon when using low doses under specialized medical supervision. Despite promising evidence, its role in primary prevention still requires further investigation. We conclude that colchicine represents a safe, accessible, and effective therapeutic strategy in secondary prevention, with the potential to be incorporated into cardiology clinical protocols.
