Objective: To analyze the relationship between alcohol consumption and tobacco use among participants in a smoking cessation group. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, conducted with 63 participants from the Amélio Marques Outpatient Clinic in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. The CAGE and Fargestrom instruments were applied to assess alcohol abuse and nicotine dependence, respectively. Results: The majority were male (70.1%) and presented high or very high nicotine dependence (55.2%). The CAGE item "Eye-opener" was significantly associated (p=0.037) with difficulty abstaining from smoking in prohibited places. Conclusion: Despite the low statistical significance between the instruments, a high frequency of concomitant alcohol and tobacco use was observed, indicating the importance of integrated strategies in cessation programs.
