Abstract

This study aims to analyze breast cancer mortality in the state of Paraná between 2013 and 2023, using data from SISCAN and DATASUS. The research investigates demographic, socioeconomic, and regional variables, as well as patterns in access to disease screening. The analysis revealed that the women most affected by breast cancer were between 50 and 59 years old, with a predominance of white people, reflecting the demographic composition of the state. The incomplete education of women affected by breast cancer highlighted inequalities in access to health services, and the highest mortality rates were in the North and East macro-regions of Paraná. Furthermore, a significant decrease in mammograms performed was observed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, compromising early diagnosis and exacerbating the challenges in disease management. The study also highlighted the positive impact of campaigns like Pink October on raising awareness and adherence to screening, but pointed to limitations in their continuity throughout the year. The conclusions reinforce the need for effective public policies aimed at health promotion, early diagnosis, and expanded access to testing and treatment, focusing on the most vulnerable populations. Sustainable measures are essential to reduce mortality and ensure greater equity in cancer care in Paraná.
