Indigenous health in Brazil is marked by historical inequalities, structural challenges, and the need for care practices that respect cultural diversity. Basic nursing care plays an extremely important role in the health of indigenous populations, as it represents the first level of care and promotes continuous, humanized, and intercultural actions. The general objective of this study was to analyze basic nursing care for indigenous health, considering historical aspects, the main health needs of these populations, gaps in care, and the challenges faced in implementing effective and culturally sensitive practices. The specific objective was to identify weaknesses in the care provided, map the priority needs of indigenous communities, and propose strategies to improve nursing care. Methodology: through a literature review, it was evidenced that indigenous peoples have historically been subjected to processes of exclusion, colonization, and epidemiological vulnerability, both in a global and national context. The results of the analysis revealed that basic nursing care, although provided for in specific public policies, still faces significant obstacles, such as a shortage of trained professionals, logistical difficulties in remote areas, and the absence of an intercultural approach in health services. Recommended strategies include increasing the number of qualified professionals, incorporating health education practices adapted to indigenous culture, strengthening community participation, and valuing traditional knowledge. The articulation between biomedical systems and ancestral knowledge has proven to be essential to ensure comprehensive and effective care. It is concluded that the qualification of nursing care in indigenous health depends on overcoming structural and cultural barriers, continuous investment in specialized training, and effective listening and protagonism of indigenous communities in the care processes.
