Abstract

Introdução: The implementation of humanized childbirth faces significant challenges, such as institutional resistance, lack of training for health professionals, and socioeconomic disparities in access to health services. To advance in this field, there is a need for public policies and clinical guidelines, as well as research that explores its effectiveness in different contexts and populations, ensuring respectful care that is centered on the needs of women in labor. Objetivo: To demonstrate that a birth plan can protect women, their autonomy, and control over their bodies through knowledge about their rights and possibilities, reducing their insecurity and respecting their choices. Metodologia: Literature review. Análise e discussão dos resultados: The childbirth scenario faces significant medicalization, which corroborates pregnant women's lack of knowledge about their rights, since only a small portion has access to guidance on good practices and, unfortunately, they constantly deal with violence, violating their right to autonomy and their ability to take action. It also has the function of restoring the right to speak to women in labor; it is important that the right of women to prepare their own birth plan is respected by the professionals who assist them. Conclusão: There are numerous benefits resulting from the use of a birth plan. This instrument is an effective tool that promotes female empowerment and autonomy during the labor process. Its use allows women to regain the role of protagonists in their labor, reduces the use of unnecessary interventions, and enhances the use of non-pharmacological methods for pain relief.
