This study analyzes the work Miragem (2024), by Coelho Neto, highlighting the combination of elements of Ultra-Romanticism and Realism to represent the human suffering and disillusionment of a Brazilian generation in the post-Proclamation of the Republic period. The protagonist Thadeu embodies the ultra-romantic hero, marked by introspection, melancholy and idealization of love, while the narrative also reveals an objective critique of the social conditions and moral dilemmas of the time. This aesthetic fusion reveals the complexity of Coelho Neto's writing, which transcends romantic sentimentalism to incorporate a critical and realistic reflection on the human condition and social tensions. The methodology used is bibliographical research, based on the contributions of Barthes R (1964), Bosi A (2015), Candido A (2002), among others. The analysis highlights the relevance of the work to understand the literary transition in Brazil and the construction of a critical vision of the historical and social context of the late 19th century.
