Abstract

As the Brazilian penal system seeks to alleviate overcrowding in its prisons, electronic ankle bracelets have been established as a concrete alternative to incarceration, contributing both to reducing the prison population and facilitating the return of convicted individuals to social life. However, challenges and limitations have been observed in the effectiveness of this measure, especially with regard to the stigmatization of the monitored individual and the lack of public support policies. This study, through bibliographic research, critically analyzes the effectiveness of electronic ankle bracelets in social reintegration, highlighting the main obstacles faced by convicts and proposing reflections on possible improvements in the electronic monitoring system.
