Hospital infections are a serious public health problem, aggravated by the use of invasive devices and antimicrobial resistance. Nurses play a strategic role in prevention, through supervision of protocols, continuing education and awareness of staff and patients. The study is justified by the need to reduce morbidity and mortality, improve safety and propose effective strategies in the face of institutional and cultural challenges. This study aimed to analyze the role of nurses in the prevention and control of hospital infections, through an integrative review of the literature, with analysis of 17 scientific articles. It was found that nurses play a fundamental role in these actions. Measures such as guidance on correct hand hygiene, adequate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), rigorous disinfection of surfaces and appropriate isolation of patients with transmissible infections stand out. Such practices contribute to the reduction of infections and promote safe care. The success of the strategies depends on effective communication and teamwork. Nurses act as central elements in this process, ensuring that good practices are disseminated and followed. Reinforcing this role strengthens patient safety and contributes to a more efficient, ethical and humanized healthcare system.
