The Maria da Penha Law (Law No. 11,340/2006) is a landmark in the fight against domestic violence against women in Brazil, as it creates methods for protecting and holding perpetrators accountable. However, its effectiveness still faces barriers, especially in areas with inadequate infrastructure and limited resources, such as the state of Amazonas. To expand this protection, Law No. 14,674/2023 was approved, establishing rental assistance as a supplementary measure to support victims who are in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability. This article examines the progress and limitations of these laws, focusing on the influence of the lack of knowledge of their rights on the part of women who are assaulted. The implementation of emergency protective measures, the lack of regulation regarding rental assistance, the lack of budgetary provision, and the insufficient training of professionals in the support network undermine the effectiveness of the law. Interviews and data reveal that many victims are unaware of this right, and this lack of information also extends to public servants who should provide appropriate guidance. The role of the Judiciary, the responsibilities of the different levels of government, and the temporary strategies adopted while the benefit is not fully established are also addressed. Finally, the study suggests institutional recommendations for the implementation of the benefit, emphasizing the urgent need for collaboration between public authorities, an increase in investments in humanized training, and a comprehensive dissemination of the rights guaranteed by law.
