Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the most relevant neoplasms in the history of public health and women’s health in most parts of Brazil. An estimated 704,000 new cancer cases are expected between 2023 and 2025. The connection between breast cancer incidence and mortality rates is directly related to factors that hinder the accessibility of at-risk populations to public health services. Mammography has been widely recognized as the most effective method for early detection of breast cancer. Treatment methods for breast cancer have continuously evolved over the years, and at the time, surgeries could be associated with adjuvant chemotherapy. The study was conducted through a qualitative and descriptive bibliographic analysis to obtain results and insights regarding the correlation between radiodiagnostic methods used in the study of breast cancer. The results demonstrated that the use of mammography, especially when combined with other imaging methods, is effective both for early detection and for monitoring the response to chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is an essential treatment and can be monitored through mammography, particularly in combination with other imaging techniques, to assess tumor response and plan subsequent treatment. This study is justified as an opportunity to discuss the topic with the aim of emphasizing the importance of mammography and adjuvant chemotherapy as crucial components in the early screening and treatment of the disease. It is concluded that, with appropriate treatment of breast cancer, patients can achieve a better quality of life through chemotherapy, especially when it is integrated with continuous medical follow-up and other therapeutic approaches that promote physical and emotional well-being.
