In Brazil, police violence is a constant and critical issue, especially in the most vulnerable areas, where security forces are frequently accused of abuses of power and violating human rights. The country faces the challenge of balancing the maintenance of public order with respect for the fundamental rights of citizens, as the disproportionate use of police force has raised concerns both. This article aims to analyze the legal limits and legal responsibilities in the use of force by police officers in Brazil, investigating how the Brazilian legal system and inspection mechanisms guarantee the prevention, control and punishment of cases of violence police, in light of human rights. The study method is an integrative bibliographic review, of a basic nature and a qualitative, explanatory approach and descriptive purposes. It is concluded that the legitimate use of force needs to be accompanied by supervision and control mechanisms to prevent abuses and human rights violations. It is essential that police officers receive continuous training in use of force and conflict management techniques, ensuring responsible and effective action.
