Abstract

This is a review that discusses the role of imaging techniques, such as, mammography, magnetic resonance (MR), and ultrasonography, in the diagnosis and screening of breast cancer, the leading cause of cancer-related death among women in Brazil. From this perspective, mammography remains the primary screening method, while MR and ultrasound should be reserved for specific cases, with the adoption of well-defined protocols to optimize diagnosis and reduce costs and diagnostic overuse.
