This study aims to analyze the impacts of nursing staff overload in emergency hospitals, organizing the discussion into three axes:quality of care, occupational stress, and patient safety. This is an integrative literature review, with the selection of 20 articles published between 2010 and 2024, identified in databases such as LILACS, SciELO, BDENF, and PubMed. The results show that work overload compromises the quality of care provided, raises stress levels among professionals, and increases the risk of care errors, directly affecting pacient safety. Factors surch as long working hours, a shortage of professionals, poor structural conditions and a high demand for emergency care worsen the situation. Thse conditions affect team performance, reduce the emergence, reduce the ability to respond to emergencies and compromise the humanization of care. The research highlights the need for institutional strategies to mitigate the effects of overload and promote a safer and more efficiente work environment for nursing staff and health service users.
