Abstract

This article analyzes the phenomenon of algorithmic racism, with a focus on facial recognition technology and its implications for fundamental rights, particularly within the Brazilian context. It begins by understanding racism as a social, historical, and psychological construct, whose structural legacy directly influences the development and application of artificial intelligence technologies. The discussion explores how machine learning systems can reproduce and reinforce racial inequalities through biased data. The article also examines the concrete impacts of algorithmic racism, such as the stigmatization of Black individuals, social exclusion, and violations of the principles of equality and human dignity. Finally, it emphasizes the need for specific regulations, transparency in automated systems, and the development of ethical and inclusive artificial intelligence that promotes social justice and combats historical discrimination.
