Vitamin D3, an essential steroid hormone, regulates the homeostasis of calcium and phosphorus, which are essential for bone mineralization. Synthesized mainly by sun exposure, its deficiency compromises the absorption of these minerals, increasing the risk of osteoporosis, characterized by low bone mineral density and greater predisposition to fractures. Recent studies demonstrate that the effectiveness of vitamin D3 can be enhanced by the action of magnesium, an essential mineral for its conversion into the active form, and by vitamin K2-MK7, which directs calcium to the bones, preventing its inadequate deposition in soft tissues. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the action of vitamin D3 on bone metabolism, evaluating the impact of its deficiency and the benefits of supplementation in the prevention and management of osteoporosis. This is a literature review, based on scientific articles from the main databases (PubMed, Scielo, Google Scholar), in order to provide a basis for more effective clinical approaches in maintaining bone health.
