Social media platforms are central to the lives of Brazilian adolescents, shaping their interactions and identities. However, this digital immersion also exposes them to significant risks, including involvement in delinquent acts. This article explores the complex link between digital platform use and risk behaviors among youth aged 14 to 18. We investigate how the addictive design of social networks can exploit adolescent brain vulnerabilities, impacting self-control and risk perception. We analyze how exposure to transgressive content may normalize deviant conduct, and how social media facilitates offenses ranging from cyberbullying and fraud to crime organization and the glorification of illicit acts. The study critically assesses mitigation strategies – from parental awareness and digital education to the limitations of platform moderation, the need for psychological support, and updated legal frameworks. We conclude that only a collaborative approach, involving families, schools, platforms, health professionals, and public authorities, can effectively reduce these risks and foster a safer digital environment for young people.
