Introduction: Music therapy has been consolidating itself as an effective complementary intervention in the hospital context, promoting the physical and emotional well-being of patients. This study aimed to evaluate the benefits of applying music therapy in the care of hospitalized patients, with an emphasis on the role of nursing in the process of humanized care. The integrative literature review methodology was used, with a search for articles in the SciELO and LILACS databases, considering publications between 2020 and 2024, in Portuguese or Spanish, with free access. The descriptors used were: hospital care, nursing care, emotional well-being and health. Six articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected. The results indicate that music contributes significantly to the reduction of stress, anxiety, pain and physiological changes, such as heart and respiratory rate. In addition, music therapy proves to be a viable, low-cost and easy-to-apply resource, strengthening the bond between the health team and the patient. It is concluded that the integration of music therapy into nursing practice can transform the hospital experience, promoting more welcoming, empathetic care that is focused on human needs.
