BETWEEN FUN AND RUIN: THE INFLUENCE OF ONLINE GAMBLING ON EXCESSIVE DEBT IN BRAZIL

The article analyzes the influence of online betting/BETS on excessive debt in the Brazilian scenario. To this end, it seeks to understand which factors contribute to the configuration of this sensitive circumstance. Thus, it used renowned authors such Bauman (2010), Miragem (2024), Gonçalves; Baltazar and Lenza (2022), Oliveira (2024), Schwartsman (2020), as well as the decrees, laws and ordinances: Law No. 14,790/23, Law No. 13,155/2015, Decree Law No. 3,688/1941, Law No. 13,756/2018, Law No. 8,078/1990, Decree Law No. 6259/44, SPA/MF Ordinance No. 1,231/2024 and MF Normative Ordinance No. 1,330/2023. The methodology used in the procedure is bibliographical and documentary, since it was developed based on studies of previously published materials such as scientific articles, doctrines, laws, decrees and ordinances. As for its object, the methodology used is descriptive, since the main focus in developing this article is to observe, analyze and describe the phenomenon of online gambling in Brazil and its relationship with indebtedness. The study concludes with the causes that contribute to the excessive debt of Brazilians due to online betting based on the analysis of the data provided.
