Abstract

Violence against women is “any act or conduct, based on gender, that causes death, harm or physical, sexual or psychological suffering to women, both in the public and private spheres”, in accordance with the provisions of article 1 of the Inter-American Convention to Prevent, Punish and Eradicate Violence Against Women – Belém do Pará Convention. The state of Pernambuco (PE) is in the 11th position in the national ranking of registered murders of women. This research has the capacity to understand the contributions of the government of the state of Pernambuco in the prevention and combating of violence against women within its territory, through the analysis of the legal system related to the topic, as well as the network dealing with violence against woman implemented in the State, from an intersectoral perspective. The research is of qualitative approach, the data collected were secondary, raised by means of documentary and bibliographic research, as well as consultation of national and state legislation, with the aim of identifying and understanding the topic. The research will contribute to the advancement of academic knowledge on the subject, providing data and analyses that can support future research and interventions in the field of gender violence. In addition, the results of the research can be beneficial to civil society organizations, governmental bodies and professionals committed to the prevention and suppression of violence against women. In view of the analysis carried out, it was found that the Women's Secretariat of Pernambuco is who is at the forefront of the actions aimed at combating violence against women in the State, through the articulation of public policies with other public bodies and also civilian entities. Despite the efforts of the state government to create public policies to deal with violence against women, the data presented indicate that the public policies implemented are unsuccessful, since they are unable to reduce the rates of violence against woman, especially the crime of feminicide that is growing every year, which indicates the urgent need of the State to create new instruments of confrontation and repression of violence towards women, as well as to improve the existing mechanisms.
