This article sought to analyze the legal evolution of the protection of dogs and cats in Amazonas, highlighting the challenges and strategies for raising awareness of environmental crimes. The aim is to understand how environmental and criminal legislation has advanced in the protection of these animals, identifying gaps and proposing solutions to strengthen enforcement and education of the population. The methodology employed is qualitative, based on documentary research and a bibliographic review of federal, state and municipal legislation, as well as an analysis of case law and academic studies on the subject. The results show advances in legislation and in the recognition of animal rights, but they also highlight difficulties in applying the rules, a lack of efficient inspection and the need for more effective public policies. The conclusion is that raising society's awareness and training the responsible bodies are fundamental for the laws to be effective, making it essential to implement educational campaigns and strengthen animal protection institutions in Amazonas.
