According to the World Health Organization (WHO), patient safety is defined as the reduction of the risk of unnecessary harm during health care, being a fundamental aspect of the quality of health care, focused on the prevention, identification, and mitigation of incidents. Thus, the present work aims to report the experience of implementing a health education action on surgical patient safety for nursing professionals. Therefore, this is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, characterized as an experience report, created from the experience of nursing students from the Faculty of Theology, Philosophy and Human Sciences Gamaliel (FATEFIG), in the implementation of an extension activity carried out in the context of a Polyclinic. Thus, the activity was of an educational nature, in which the proposal was to clearly and objectively convey information regarding surgical patient safety, with a focus on goal 4 (four) of the International Patient Safety Goals. The importance of educational actions for health professionals is highlighted, as it enables participants to develop adequate knowledge, skills, and attitudes to improve care in the work environment.
