As in other countries, cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death in Brazil. In the 20th century, little was understood about this condition. However, studies such as the Framingham Heart Study (FHS) clarified that a significant part of the risk for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) - an acute manifestation of cardiovascular disease - is associated with unhealthy lifestyle habits. Following the discovery of these conditions, there is now greater emphasis on AMI prevention. To assist in the development and direction of prevention strategies, this study analyzed the evolution of hospital deaths due to acute myocardial infarction between 2019 and 2023 in the state of Paraná using the DATASUS platform. An increase in the number of deaths was observed from 2019 to 2022, followed by a decline in 2023. Males patients accounted for 56,29% of reported cases, while female patients represented 43,71%. The highest number of deaths was observed in the 60 to 80 group (79,68%). The highest incidence was observed in the white race (72,37%). The literature indicates visible improvements in public health. However, epidemics of obesity, diabetes, and other risk factors remain a current concern. Therefore, it is necessary to intensify prevention efforts.
