The serious problems of the Brazilian prison system attest to the need for new strategies in social reintegration policies that provide for the social inclusion of ex-prisoners in the labor market. In this sense, the article aims to evaluate the innovative capacity of the professional insertion policy for inmates in public organizations in Alagoas. The methodology adopted was the case study within the scope of the Secretariat of Reintegration and Social Inclusion of Alagoas. The analysis of the results demonstrated that the employment of labor in external work activities represents an organizational innovation and a rupture in penal execution policies in the state.
