This article aimed to analyze the importance of nursing care in preventing obstetric violence and protecting the newborn, highlighting the strategic role of nurses during the pregnancy-puerperal cycle. It is a qualitative study, based on the application of questionnaires to postpartum women who reported their experiences during childbirth. The results showed that 75% of participants reported having experienced some type of obstetric violence, revealing the persistence of dehumanized practices still present in health services. The research demonstrated that nursing, through its continuous presence, can identify abusive conduct and intervene ethically, promoting humanized care for both the woman and the newborn. Furthermore, the study revealed the need to raise awareness among multidisciplinary teams about this issue, as well as to strengthen regulations that ensure reproductive rights. It is concluded that investing in the critical and humanized training of nursing professionals, in addition to the creation and reinforcement of public policies, is essential to combat obstetric violence and ensure dignified and respectful care.
