The practice of play goes beyond mere entertainment, being essential in the construction of knowledge. Children and adolescents actively explore the world, experimenting, discovering and developing critical thinking and problem-solving. Digital play activities open doors to learning and progress. By engaging in games and online activities, young people learn to use technology creatively and productively. Augmented Reality (AR) enriches learning and play by integrating virtual elements into the real world. It allows young people to explore complex concepts interactively, viewing 3D models and creating animations that interact with the environment. The intention of this study was to explore the role of play, both in traditional and digital formats and with Augmented Reality, in the active and meaningful development of children and adolescents. This work demonstrates relevance by studying play as a fundamental pillar in the development of children and adolescents, ranging from traditional games to technological innovations such as digital games and Augmented Reality. By highlighting how play shapes active learning. The study was conducted through a bibliographical research, with the aim of understanding the role of play in child and youth development. Play, in its various forms, strengthens learning by stimulating creativity, critical thinking and problem solving. Whether through traditional, digital or Augmented Reality games, this practice contributes significantly to child and youth development.
