Introduction: "Burnout syndrome” (BS) can be defined as a “Syndrome of emotional exhaustion”, depersonalization and a sense of frustration. It is becoming increasingly common among academics from different areas of health, affecting their mental and physical health. Objective: Check the prevalence of signs of Burnout Syndrome, in academics of the Dentistry Course, at a Private Higher Education Institution in the city of Uberlândia-MG. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was carried out with 90 academics from the Dentistry Course at a Private Higher Education Institution in the Municipality of Uberlândia-MG, using the MBI-SS questionnaire (Maslach Burnout Inventory–Student Survey) consisting of 15 items answered, through on a visual analogue scale, ranging from 0 (never) to 6 (every day) of intensity. Results: There was no significant difference for Burnout Syndrome when comparing gender and age. There was a significant correlation between BS and the period studied by the academics, so the more advanced the period, the higher the test score, and a positive correlation was also found for BS and the period studied for females. The prevalence of Burnout Syndrome found in the total group evaluated was 65,56%. Conclusion: It is concluded that there is a high prevalence of Burnout Syndrome in dental students and that women in the last periods have a higher score for this syndrome.
