Storytelling should be used in schools, not only for fun, but also in quiet moments of practice, entering the classroom, as a methodology that enriches teaching practice, while promoting multiple knowledge and learning. This article seeks to analyze the importance of storytelling and its influence on the emotional and cognitive development of children in the literacy process. The article presents the history of children's literature in Brazil, focusing on its current situation, and then the importance of this act, pointing out its contributions to the cognitive and emotional development of children and the importance of a prepared teacher, in constant training. It is a qualitative research of a bibliographic nature.
