This theoretical and bibliographical article aims to analyze social representations of disability and their influence on the construction of special education in the Brazilian context. The text aims to identify and analyze the main historical milestones related to the topic, from antiquity to the present day, as well as to understand the changes and evolutions in thinking and approaches to the topic over time. The research analyzed 7 scientific articles on Google Scholar, between the period 2004 and 2024.
