Safety constitutes an important structural component of health care services; in the care context of neonatology, this issue becomes much more delicate, as it requires highly specialized care. The research aimed to analyze quality and safety practices within the scope of neonatal care, with a focus on improving the quality of care provided, prioritizing harm reduction and promoting well-being. A systematic review was carried out based on the PRISMA method guidelines. The literary search was carried out in the following databases: PubMed, SciELO, LILACS and VHL. It was observed that the culture of quality and patient safety is not strongly established in the NICU environment. However, there are practices that improve the quality of care in the NICU and that need to be emphasized and implemented in the safety culture of intensive care care in order to provide a risk-free environment for neonatal patients.
