Obesity is a chronic and multifactorial disease, with high social prevalence, representing a public health challenge due to the significant risk of early morbidity and mortality. In Brazil, obesity has increased, along with Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), such as hypertension and diabetes. The Body Mass Index (BMI) is used to assess body adiposity, but it has its limitations. The treatment of obesity requires a multidisciplinary approach, with the aim of improving health and reducing the risk of complications. For patients who do not respond to medical treatment, the intragastric balloon (BIG) may be a temporary option. BIG consists of placing a balloon in the stomach to limit food intake. The objective of this study is to report the efficacy and relevance of the procedure, through the analysis of weight reduction in individuals with varying body mass indexes (BMI), who underwent treatment with BIG at the Hospital Prontocordis, located in Porto Velho, Rondônia, from 2010 to 2024. A literature review was carried out in databases such as PUBMED, SCIELO and Google Scholar, in addition to guidelines and official documents, focusing on publications from 2013 to 2024 for theoretical support on obesity and treatment with Intragastric Balloon. Then, the data were collected from an institutional database of the Prontocordis Hospital, ensuring the anonymity of the patients. Finally, statistical techniques were applied to interpret the results, comparing them with the literature and elaborating a critical discussion.
