Abstract

This article aims to reflect on the late adoption process, considering the subjective relationships of those involved. Explores the historical, cultural and legal evolution of adoption, highlighting its importance for both adopters and waiting children. Late adoption involves building unique relationships with children whose stories often include family disruptions, rights violations and experiences of institutional care. The study also addresses the difficulties in reconciling the profile of children available for adoption and the profile desired by the applicants, emphasizing the fundamental right of children and adolescents to family life. Furthermore, the article analyzes the practical application of the principle of the best interests of children and adolescents, recognizing that there are still challenges to be overcome to promote a new culture of adoption in the country, considering them subjects of law with absolute priority.
