Introduction: Antepartum hemorrhage is one of the main challenges in maternal-fetal health, representing an important cause of morbidity and mortality for both pregnant women and newborns. Vaginal bleeding in the antepartum period is a highly relevant obstetric complication, being considered one of the main causes of risk for both mother and fetus. Objective: The objective of this article is to review the clinical aspects, diagnoses and management strategies of obstetric complications associated with hemorrhage during pregnancy, with emphasis on placenta previa and ectopic pregnancy. Methodology: The methodology improves guidelines for narrative reviews, with a comprehensive search in scientific databases and specialized literature, seeking relevant articles published in the last 15 years. Results and discussion: Placental abruption is characterized by partial or total separation of the placenta before the baby is born, resulting in abdominal pain, bleeding and, in severe cases, compromised fetal well-being. Conclusion: Hemorrhage during pregnancy, especially in the form of placenta previa and placental abruption, remains one of the main causes of maternal-fetal morbidity and mortality, requiring a careful obstetric approach and the implementation of effective management strategies.
