Gastric cancer is a malignant neoplasm that often presents with non-specific symptoms, making early diagnosis difficult and increasing mortality. It is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Brazil. Gastrectomy is the most effective therapeutic approach and the only treatment capable of curing the patient of this disease. The objective of this article was to analyze the effects of different gastrectomy techniques during surgery and in the postoperative period. A literature review was conducted using the medical databases PubMed and VHL, with the descriptors “gastric cancer,” “gastrectomy,” and “treatment,” along with the Boolean operator “AND.” A total of 25 scientific articles were included after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Based on the studies analyzed, it was observed that, although each gastrectomy technique has its benefits and drawbacks, all are safe and effective in curing the disease. They show similar oncological outcomes, quality of life, and rates of operative complications and survival when compared to each other. Therefore, it is essential to determine which technique is most suitable for the patient's case: conventional, laparoscopic, or robotic.
