Abstract

Eaching in the 21st century has been facing new challenges and paradigms to meet contemporary demands. In this context, the “Beyond Maps” project arises from the need to innovate Geography training by taking a Geography of Perception approach with a view to critically understanding geographic space and social and environmental sustainability. This study emphasizes the importance of encouraging student leadership through practical activities, with the creation of sustainable vegetable gardens, analysis of textual genres, in addition to using the street as a “living laboratory” and the use of technologies in classroom experiences. The research is based on participatory action, the project was developed at the Escola Cidadã Integral Estadual Deputado Carlos Pessoa Filho, Aroeiras-PB, with studies aligned with the competencies of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is concluded that the proposal promotes an education that transcends traditional maps, enabling students to understand local and global space, while encouraging critical thinking and socio-environmental responsibility.
