This study investigated how collaborative learning, when applied in virtual learning environments, contributes to the quality of the educational process in distance education. The primary objective was to analyze collaborative learning practices in digital environments and understand their impacts on student participation and skill development. The methodology was exclusively bibliographic, based on the analysis of studies, articles, and theses related to the topic. The study examined the concepts, principles, and benefits of collaborative learning, as well as the challenges of its implementation in virtual contexts. The findings revealed that collaborative learning in virtual environments significantly enhances student engagement, the development of social and cognitive skills, and the promotion of meaningful learning. However, the research also identified obstacles, such as unfamiliarity with digital tools and time management challenges. The conclusions suggest that implementing effective pedagogical strategies can overcome these challenges and improve the quality of collaborative learning. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the need for further research to deepen the analysis of collaborative practices and the use of digital technologies in distance education.
