This study examines the needs and perspectives of continuing teacher education in the 21st century, considering the challenges imposed by the digital era and the transformations in the educational landscape. The research analyzes current teacher training policies in Brazil, highlighting existing gaps and opportunities for innovation. Through a comprehensive literature review, the study investigates emerging trends in continuing education, including the incorporation of digital technologies, active methodologies, and collaborative approaches. The results indicate that, although there have been significant advances in continuing education initiatives, substantial challenges persist, such as the need for personalization of training programs and the effective integration of digital technologies into teaching practice. The analysis reveals the transformative potential of innovative approaches in teacher training, emphasizing the importance of lifelong learning and adaptability to constant changes in the educational field. It is concluded that continuing teacher education in the 21st century requires a holistic approach that integrates pedagogical, technological, and socio-emotional competencies, demanding a continuous commitment to innovation and reflection on teaching practice.
