Postmenopausal osteoporosis is a highly clinically relevant condition characterized by progressive loss of bone mineral density (BMD), increasing the risk of fractures. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) has been widely used in the management of this condition due to its positive effects on BMD maintenance. This study reviews the available evidence on the relationship between HRT and BMD in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. The analysis covers different types of estrogens and progestogens used in therapy, as well as their variations in terms of efficacy and safety. Studies suggest that HRT can significantly improve BMD, especially in women in early menopause. However, long-term use of HRT is associated with potential risks, such as increased risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease. Understanding the long-term effects of HRT on BMD is essential to optimize its therapeutic use, taking into account the individual risks and benefits of patients.
