Abstract

This article aimed to analyze the contribution of a health education group as a strategy to expand care for elderly people in primary health care in a municipality in the backlands of Paraíba. This is a field study with a qualitative approach, based on the method of historical-dialectical materialism. Data analysis was carried out using Bardin's content analysis technique. The results highlighted the importance of the health educational activities carried out through the group and their contribution to the general well-being of the elderly participants. These actions encouraged the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of social relationships. Furthermore, it was also seen that the promotion of group activities for the elderly in PHC must be detailed as a strategy with a view to reaffirming the social rights of this population and highlighting the right to health in line with the Statute of the Elderly Person, of the Policy National Health Policy for the Elderly and the Active Aging Policy. The study concluded that the participation of elderly people in a health education group is an effective strategy to promote more active aging and a better quality of life.
