Abstract

The text addresses the importance of symbolic forms in the construction of the identity of quilombola communities, focusing on education and religious and mythical practices. Symbolic structures, which permeate myths and religion, act as mediators between individuals and their communities, influencing the perception of reality. The research investigates the religious and mythical experiences of three quilombola communities in Santarém-PA, using ethnographic methods. The results reveal that the exclusion of this knowledge from the school environment disrupts the collective memory, highlighting the urgency of integrating this knowledge into educational practices in order to promote the cultural and historical appreciation of these communities.
