The focus is on identifying the pedagogical strategies used to overcome obstacles and improve students' retention at school. The qualitative research was carried out through semi-structured interviews with EJA teachers, addressing questions about teaching practices, challenges faced, strategies to overcome these challenges and the preparation of professionals. The results presented the challenges faced by teachers, such as inadequate public policies, lack of teaching materials and the need to reconcile students' personal responsibilities with their studies. The pedagogical strategies adopted by teachers include adapting practices to the students' reality, promoting daily welcoming and valuing students' life experiences.
