Abstract

Health Care-Related Infections (IRAS) are recognized worldwide as a serious public health problem, as they increase morbidity, mortality, as well as the general costs of the hospital system. They are acquired after a patient is admitted to a health service, and may manifest themselves during hospitalization or after discharge. To be considered HAI, the infection must be related to a health care procedure or a hospitalization. The infections most frequently found in hospitals are related to the use of invasive devices, length of hospitalization, surgical procedures, use of immunosuppressants and infections by multi-resistant microorganisms. Given the context presented, the objective of this research is to describe the strategies and actions carried out by the nurse regarding the prevention and control of infections related to care in Intensive Care Centers (ICU), analyzing the influence of the nursing professional in the control of these adverse events.
