Abstract

LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide), traditionally known for its psychedelic effects, has attracted increasing interest in scientific research due to its therapeutic potential in a number of neurological and psychiatric disorders. This article reviews recent evidence on the effects of LSD, highlighting its ability to promote neuroplasticity, modulate the serotonergic system, and induce changes in brain connectivity. In addition, the use of microdosing has been shown to improve creativity, focus, and emotional well-being, without inducing the typical hallucinogenic effects. Objective: Bibliographic in nature, based on a critical analysis of scientific studies, articles, and literature reviews that explore both the historical aspects and the results of contemporary research on LSD. Methodology: This study is a literature review, conducted through database searches. Results: The studies indicate that, although there are still challenges related to regulation and security, LSD has promising therapeutic potential, especially when administered in controlled settings and under professional guidance. Conclusion: Despite preliminary results being promising, more controlled studies are needed to fully understand the mechanisms of action of LSD and validate its therapeutic efficacy in different clinical settings.
