Abstract

This study addresses the general competencies established by the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), established by the Ministry of Education (MEC) in Brazil. A bibliographical survey was carried out addressing how such skills can be developed in the school environment, aiming to expand a discussion on the importance of developing cognitive and socio-emotional skills. In this analysis, the following stood out: knowledge; scientific, critical and creative thinking; the cultural repertoire; communication; digital culture; work and life project; the argumentation; self-knowledge and self-care; empathy and cooperation; responsibility and citizenship. The importance of a welcoming school context and the continued training of teachers became evident, which empowers the professional, facilitating an up-to-date understanding of the issues that emerge in the process of building academic knowledge and the lives of students who are developing.
