Introduction: Tooth extraction, is a common procedure in dentistry. Analysis of tooth extraction in users of anticoagulant medications is important to ensure patient safety during and after the procedure. Objective: this study aimed to investigate the safety and effectiveness of tooth extraction in patients who use anticoagulant medications, with the purpose of providing valuable information for dental practice and improving the quality of care for this group of patients. Materials and methods: a bibliographic survey was carried out, then data was collected with the purpose of identifying relevant variables such as type of anticoagulant, medication suspension time, recovery or post-extraction complications. Results: The use of anticoagulants in patients undergoing tooth extraction surgery minimizes the risk of bleeding complications, in addition to requiring a multidisciplinary approach. The use of these anticoagulants in these patients involves critical steps, such as: assessing the risk of bleeding, adapting anticoagulant therapy according to the patient's characteristics and the type of surgery. Conclusion: Therefore, by following these steps, professionals can optimize patient safety, reducing the risk of bleeding and thromboembolic complications.
