Abstract

The role of the Military Police in Brazil is multifaceted, with one of their primary responsibilities being criminal law enforcement. They are tasked with a significant role in preventing and responding to crime through investigative and patrolling activities. This involves a proactive approach where officers conduct regular patrols to deter criminal activity and ensure public safety. In addition, the Military Police are involved in investigative tasks, which require them to gather intelligence, analyze data, and collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to solve crimes. Thus, the aim of this article is to explore the dual role of the Military Police in the justice system, the interaction between military and civilian law enforcement, and finally, the impact of military policing on social protection. To meet the proposed objectives, bibliographical research was used. It is concluded that the Military Police in Brazil plays a critical dual role that highlights the delicate balance between criminal law enforcement and the promotion of social protection within communities. Their responsibilities include investigative and patrol duties focused on crime prevention and response, while also engaging in initiatives that prioritize public safety and community trust.
