THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ANTIDEPRESSANTS IN THE TREATMENT OF DEPRESSION IN ADOLESCENTS

The objective of this study is to analyze the efficacy of antidepressants in adolescents, highlighting their benefits in the treatment of depression. The research encompasses a review of existing literature, addressing key issues regarding the use of antidepressant medications during the developmental phase of youth. Materials and Methods: The methodology included a of articles published between 2010 and 2023, selected from scientific databases such as PubMed, Scielo, and other specialized sources. The study focused on clinical evidence, data from randomized and observational trials, as well as narrative reviews discussing the efficacy of medications in adolescents. Results: The results indicate that antidepressants can be effective in treating depression in adolescents, showing significant improvements in depressive symptoms and quality of life. However, the analysis also highlighted the occurrence of adverse events that may affect treatment adherence. Conclusion: It is concluded that, despite potential adverse events, antidepressants can offer significant benefits in reducing depressive symptoms in adolescents, making careful evaluation of each case crucial. Close monitoring and consideration of complementary therapeutic approaches are recommended to optimize outcomes.
