Nurses face challenges in assisting the biopsychosocial development of children with chronic illness, which has been an obstacle to quality of life and compromises the physical, social and psychological state, considered one of the main causes of child morbidity and mortality. Given this, this article establishes the following problem: what nursing care is being provided to children with chronic illnesses? The general objective aims to analyze the role of nurses in the biopsychosocial development of children with chronic illness. Therefore, the specific objectives are based on observing the possible damage that can be caused by the disease; improve quality of life; contribute to the daily learning of health professionals; and develop the promotion, protection and prevention of chronic and associated diseases. Methodologically, it contains a qualitative study, developed through bibliographic and documentary research, with an integrative review of the literature in the BDTD, VHL and SciELO databases. The results showed difficulties for the nursing team regarding the necessary guidance that should be given to family members/caregivers; in clarifying the disease; in the humanization of care; and the need for necessary materials, thus realizing the need to improve the structure of care networks and also in investment in continuing education.
