The excessive exposure of the gums during smiling, known as a "gummy smile," can lead to aesthetic dissatisfaction in patients. Several surgical techniques are available in periodontology to correct this issue, with laser gingivoplasty being one of the most effective options. This study aims to evaluate laser gingivoplasty as an aesthetic correction technique for patients with gingival hyperplasia, a condition that causes excessive gum tissue growth and compromises the proper exposure of the clinical crown, negatively affecting the harmony of the smile. Laser gingivoplasty has stood out for its precision and lower invasiveness compared to conventional methods, offering better aesthetic results and faster recovery for the patient. The procedure is indicated in cases of gingival enlargement without the presence of periodontal disease, ensuring greater safety and predictability in treatment. The indications, contraindications, and general benefits of laser gingivoplasty in the context of periodontal health and aesthetics were discussed. It is concluded that when properly indicated, laser gingivoplasty is an efficient alternative for correcting gingival aesthetic alterations, significantly contributing to patient satisfaction and improved quality of life.
