This study analyzed the role of nurses in palliative care within the context of Primary Health Care (PHC), highlighting the main challenges and strategies for training and integration in care delivery. Based on a narrative literature review, it was possible to identify that nurses face difficulties such as a lack of specific training, workload, and communication barriers regarding end-of-life issues. However, the study also demonstrated that continuous training and the creation of interdisciplinary networks can optimize care, promoting self-care and improving the quality of life for patients with chronic and terminal illnesses. The findings suggest that the integration of palliative care into PHC is essential to ensure continuity of care and that strengthening the role of nurses in this context can contribute to more humane and efficient care. Finally, this study proposes the development of public policies that recognize palliative care as a fundamental practice in PHC, as well as the need for further research to explore ways to optimize this integration.
